A Firsthand Account of the Differences Between Bing and Google
I’ve submitted my domain to Google, Yahoo and Bing. I’ve already taken several simple steps to optimize my content for crawlers. And the results so far? For the keyword “jeff shearer”, I rank 36th on Google. Yahoo hasn’t indexed me yet, and Bing?

Thats right, I rank #1 on Bing for my name, and my LinkedIn profile is a close second. Its interesting to see that what Bing finds most relevant, Google finds nearly irrelevant. While I am happy to be ranking well on Bing, my goal is #1 on Google. As the competition among search engines becomes more consolidated, webmaster will have to struggle for a tradeoff between SEO for Bing and Google. How does one strike the right balance? If Bing continues to gain ground, the next few years could mean big changes for the SEO world.
If you are working on establishing your personal brand online, Google/Bing your name and see how you rank!

Well the nice thing is I’m the first link on both bing and google–although with bing it’s a site I have on a journalism social media site, and with google it’s my facebook. Although the journalism link would be more interesting to me, its the only link on bing. At least with google all but two of the links on the first page are me-including my LinkedIn. Funny how that works out.
Obviously I have a little work to do.
